Professor Abdulganiy Olayinka Raji, the Ekiti state Resident Electoral Commission (REC) has revealed that only 667,028 individuals are eligible to vote in the Saturday 14 July governorship election in the state.
Professor Raji who gave out this information while briefing pressmen about the level of preparation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of Saturday’s poll, noted that the electoral body was ready for the voting process.

He said that out of the 913,334 registered voters in the state, only 667,028 people collected their Permanent Voter Cards, leaving over 246,126 who didn’t collect their cards ineligible to cast their votes when the process commences.
“We have 2,195 units, 177 RAC centers and a total of 913,334 registered voters,” Professor Raji said.
“Out of this number, only 667028 have collected their PVCs while 246126 could not collect their voting cards, which means they cannot cast their votes on Saturday.
Only 667,028 voters collected their voters' card for the Ekiti election.
“We ended the collection of PVCs on Wednesday, 11 July, this was after extending the collection by three days,” he explained further.
The INEC officer also appealed to party officials to avoid inducing their staff because they don’t need their help.
He said: “We are appealing to the party people to not induce our staff. We don’t need their assistance.
“We don’t need your fuel to move our vehicles, we don’t need your vehicles for movements. We have a rapid response squad that can help in times of need.
“And we are monitoring everybody’s movement to know when they may be in need.
“Don’t help us change our tyres, we don’t need your help.”

Meanwhile, the candidates of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Independent Democrats (ID), Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) and Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA) were on Thursday, July 12, divided over the adoption of state police as part of the restructuring of the country.
Premium Times reports that the candidates, namely Agboola Olaniyi, Tosin Ajibade, Afe Babatunde, and Temitope Adebayo respectively, were at opposing points as they answered questions at the first segment of the Ekiti governorship debate held at Damlek event hall in Ado Ekiti.
