Russia 2018: Brazil key player ruled of World Cup due to injury

- Man City defender Danilo has been ruled out of the World Cup

- The 26-year-old has only played one match for the Samba Boys

- Brazil will be taking on Belgium in a quarter final match in Kazan

Brazil will be without their right-back Danilo for the rest of the World Cup, after injuring his ankle in training on the eve of Friday's quarter-final against Belgium.

The 26-year-old suffered ligament damage in his left ankle, but has been asked to remain with the squad for the rest of the tournament.

The Manchester City defender only played in Brazil's opening 1-1 draw with Switzerland on June, 17, before suffering a thigh injury.

He has since been replaced by Corinthians right-back Fagner in Tite's first team and the young defender has impressed .

Danilo came into the squad as a replacement for Paris St-Germain's Dani Alves, who has missed the tournament with a knee injury.

The Selecao will be taking on Roberto Martinez's side in the last eight match slated for the Kazan Arena.

The Samba Boys are course for their sixth World Cup title but will have to compete with the talented Belgian golden generation.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Brazil defeated Mexico by 2-0 in their round of 16 fixture.

Neymar and Roberto Firmino scored two second half goals to put the Selecao through into the next round.
