- A pro-Buhari group, the G-23, says in 2019, Igbos would vote for President Muhammadu Buhari
- The group said Ndigbo won’t repeat the mistake they made in 2015, when they supported Goodluck Jonathan against Buhari
- It called on worthy Igbo leaders to support the current president for a second term in office
The G-23, a pro-Buhari group, has said that Igbos would vote for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, so that power would be zoned to the south-east in 2023.
The group made the assertion via its south-east convener, Johnbosco Onunkwo, during a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, on Saturday, September 1, Punch reports.

NAIJ.com gathers that Onunkwo said Igbos will not repeat the mistake they made in 2015, when they supported former president Goodluck Jonathan on the basis of regional consideration, and neglected broad-based politics.
According to Onunkwo, that decision cost Ndigbo politically.
He said: “We have, as a body, painstakingly summarised the political realities confronting the south-east region with an understanding that Ndigbo will not repeat the mistake of 2015, where we neglected the broad-based politics that brought in President Muhammadu Buhari as a result of regional and ethnic sympathy.
“This, at the end, cost the region a lot politically. Despite this, we, members of G23, sincerely appreciate the attitude of President Muhammadu Buhari, who has risen as a statesman to accommodate all Nigerians irrespective of where that region stood in the last general elections.”
The group’s convener urged south-easterners to seek the most favourable set of political outcomes that were realistically obtainable; even as he called on “worthy Igbo leaders to support the president for a second term.”
He stated: “We must state that for now, it is imperative to allow the incumbent to complete his tenure; thus allowing power to rotate to the south at the end of his tenure as the conventional wisdom of our politics dictates.’’

In a related development, NAIJ.com previously reported that a political pressure group working for the actualisation of President Buhari’s re-election bid, Good Governance Ambassadors of Nigeria (GOGAN), said the president's continuity in 2019 will pave way for Ndigbo in 2023.
The group’s national chairman, Chief Felix Idiga, who made this known in Abuja, also called on the people of the south-east geo-political zone to support the ambition of the president.
