APC denies alleged ongoing registration of members in Borno

- The APC in Borno state debunked an alleged illegal registration of its new members in the state

- The party secretary, Alhaji Bello Ayuba, said when the APC is ready to register members it would send officials from the national headquarters, Abuja to different states

- Ayuba, however, declared that those behind the alleged exercise has hidden motive

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno state has declared that it was not aware of any illegal registration of its new members in the state.

Daily Sun reports that the party, in a statement signed by its secretary, Alhaji Bello Ayuba, said the registration being carried out by those it described as “suspicious group of persons has a hidden agenda that aims to undermine President Buhari’s re-election bid.”

Ayuba, who said the illegal registration, was not endorsed by the leadership of the party either at the national or state level, called on its members across the 27 local government areas of the state to disregard the exercise.

He maintained that the APC would send officials from the national headquarters, Abuja to different states when it is ready to register members, and noted that those behind the ongoing exercise were “working underground to stop legitimate registration of APC members, mislead people and collate their names for a purpose that has hidden motive.”

He said:“Party’s officials have been receiving calls by its teeming members saying they had come in contact with some people who claim to be officials undertaking registration of APC members in Borno state as well as registration of citizens who intend to vote for President Buhari.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that following the move by the APC to begin registration of new members and revalidation of old members across Nigeria, a member of the party in Delta state, Hyacinth Enuha, said the party embarked on the exercise because of the coming primaries.

He disclosed this on Thursday, August 23, while playing host to an aspirant for the state House of Assembly seat for Aniocha South constituency, Victor Sorokwu in Ogwashi-Uku .

He said the membership registration exercise will be used to conduct direct primaries where candidates of the party would emerge for the 2019 general election.
