The Alliance for Democracy (AD) has denied the news of withdrawal of its candidate from the September 22 governorship election in Osun state.
The director of communications of the party's campaign, Niyi Omotoso, in a statement sent to NAIJ.com, described the news as 'fake.'
The party also denied entering any alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or any other party, stressing that its candidate, Olugbenga Akintola remains in the race and he is confident of victory at the elections.

Part of the statement read: “We categorically deny this as ‘fake’ news and wish to assure all our supporters and the general public that Olugbenga Akintola, the AD candidate, has not withdrawn and will not withdraw from the governorship election of September 22.
“We vigorously condemn the motivation of those who initiated the news; it is obvious that their intent is nothing but immorality that is beyond comprehension.
“We remind Osun citizens that the Alliance for Democracy (AD) is a party of values that will never betray the trust and confidence of its members, supporters, and well-wishers.
“AD has not entered into any agreement to support the candidate of any other party whatsoever. Olugbenga Akintola remains in the race and confident of victory. The general public should disregard the news accordingly.”

Meanwhile, the campaign organisation of the PDP governorship candidate in Osun state, Ademola Adeleke, has described his recent invitation by the police as a threat to democracy.
The director-general of the campaign organisation, Lere Oyewunmi, told journalists in Ede on Wednesday, September 19, that an institution like the police ought to be neutral and apolitical at all times.
He said the confirmation by West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) that Senator Adeleke sat for the final examination at Muslim Grammar School in Ede should lay to rest all allegations surrounding the certificate issue rather than compound it.
