Police, APC conspiring to stop my tribunal petition move - Adeleke alleges

- The PDP's gubernatorial candidate in Osun, Ademola Adeleke, has alleged that the police and the APC are against him

- Adeleke said that police and the ruling party are conspiring to stop him from commencing his petition before the election tribunal

- The PDP leadership in the state said that it has filed a petition against the victory of Gboyega Oyetola, the declared winner of the poll

Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s gubernatorial candidate in Osun, on Tuesday, October 16, accused the police of conniving with the All Progressives Congress (APC), to prevent him from getting back his mandate.

Adeleke alleged that there is a conspiracy to intimidate him so as to halt the commencement of his petition before the election tribunal. The senator said the examination malpractice allegation was brought about by political schemers, Vanguard reports.

Adeleke said: “The police is in collusion with the APC in the plot to implicate me on trumped-up charges as a way of disrupting the commencement of our petitions before the Election Petition Tribunal.

“Their plan was originally to arrest me before the election so that I won’t be able to effectively participate at the governorship election but the court order and interventions stopped the evil agenda.

“Now that the APC knew the game is up and the stolen mandate is about to be retrieved, the party in collusion with the police has perfected a fresh plot to distract, harass and intimidate me. Nigerians are aware that the so-called examination case is politically motivated.

"The public is aware of the many intimidation and attacks I have been subjected to before, during and now after the election. We stand by the people and we will not surrender their mandate to anti-democratic forces.”

Meanwhile, the PDP in Osun on Tuesday, through Soji Adagunodo, the state chairman of the party, flanked by some chieftains, filed a petition against the emergence of the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Gboyega Oyetola.

Adagunodo, after filing the petition at the premises of Osun state high court in Osogbo said his party has valid grounds to challenge the victory of the APC candidate.

He said: “We are keeping all that under wraps. Our legal team is working so hard to ensure diligent prosecution.”

The party referred to the matter of alleged certificate forgery by Adeleke as “diversionary”; it expressed confidence in the judiciary to dispense justice for him.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that the Election Petition Tribunal (EPT) had granted Adeleke's request seeking to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from altering election results as well as information contained in the card reader machines and other documents used for the poll.

NAIJ.com gathered that the tribunal body headed by Justice T.A. Igoche, gave the warning in Osogbo on Thursday, October 4, during its pre-hearing session held amidst heavy security.
